Abstract

The development of dermocosmetics for different populations represents a challenge due to the wide ethnic diversity and specific skin characteristics that may be related to environmental factors. This way, knowledge of photodamegd skin features in distinct populations submitted to different environmental factors, with different sun protection and exposure habits, present significant contribution for the dermatological area. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the skin characteristics of the European photodamaged skin and correlate with the sun protection and exposure history of the volunteers. Healthy female volunteers aged between 40-65 years-old will participate in the study after giving written informed consent. They will fill a questionnaire concerning their sun exposure and protection habits during different periods of their lives: before 15 years old, between 16 and 25 years old, between 26 and 35 years old (when applicable) and the current habits. The sun protection and exposure habits will be scored and used for pos calculations. The characterization of the skin of the face will be performed using Photographic Scoring and objective measurements by biophysical and skin image techniques in terms of Transepidermal water loss (Tewameter® 210), Stratum corneum water content (Corneometer®), Skin microrelief (Visioscan® VC98), Skin viscoelasticity (Cutometer® SEM 575).
