Abstract

The research development of this project intends to reflect about the redefinition of the contents and roles of the medium size cities in the context of the contemporaneous urbanization process of Peru. For that end, two cities from the Andes mountain Chain- Custo and Huancayo - will be analyzed. These cities have a huge historical value and they are currently presenting a considerable increasing of their outskirts, as result of the recent efforts of urban territorial expansions. The transformations that come from the capitalism are also worsening the social and spatial differences of these urban spaces. In this context, the general aim of this project is to analyze the economic agents that are acting in the production of the urban space of the Cusco and Huancayo cities in the last two decades. We expect to contribute with the knowledge advance about the medium size cities of Peru and transformation processes of these spaces over the last two decades.
