Abstract

Seed treatment with micronutrients is a promising technology for crops of great importance in the agricultural world, such as maize (Zea mays L.). The advantages of micronutrient application by the seed include required elements available in smaller amounts, such as zinc. Low zinc availability in soils and the importance of enriching cereal grains with this nutrient are global concerns. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the physiological potential of corn seeds treated with zinc and the effect of this technology on productivity and the grain nutritional value. This research will be conducted in three stages, in which the first will be to assess the physiological potential of seed treated with zinc oxide and stored for 12 months. In this step will be used 30A37PW simple hybrid seeds will be used in two sizes (22/ 64 " Short and 16/ 64" short), and with greater and lesser vigor, treated with ZnO at doses of 50, 100, 150 and 200 mL.ha-1 and the control treatment. The second part will be conducted in the field, aiming to evaluate the reflection of seed treatment with ZnO in the production and grain nutritional value. The third step will investigate the redistribution of zinc in the plant, using the isotope method, marking zinc oxide by the stable element 68Zn, using seeds of the simple hybrid 30A37PW, 68ZnO treated at a dose of 100 mL.ha-1 and the control treatment; part of the seed will be treated and stored for 6 months, with assessments of Zn remobilization by seedlings every 2 months and the other part will be treated and sown in pots, proceeding to the analysis of plant tissue during plant development.
