Abstract

In the context of population aging , caused by the assumptions of the demographic transition, the epidemiological transition and finding new social habits and attitudes, it is shown the range of prolonging life. Accordingly, with the aging process several limitations arise, featuring paintings of disabilities. Therefore, improving the quality of life becomes indispensable and techniques for prevention, intervention and promotion for the same are sought . Moreover, it is worth highlighting the benefits of physical exercises that stimulate physical and psychological well -being, from the prevention and treatment of diseases. Then, and physical activities , it is advisable to practice Yoga, as it seeks to develop the spiritual harmony of the individual through control of mind and body. The aim of this study is to analyze the quality of elderly related with health in practitioners and non-practitioners of Hatha Yoga life. This is a cross-sectional study with descriptive approach. Will study subjects, 25 elderly and 25 elderly practitioners not practicing Hatha Yoga which do not practice physical activity or exercise in the last six months divided into two groups : Yoga and control group . Seniors who submit the defined inclusion criteria will be interviewed by the application of an instrument for characterization and quality of life related to health questionnaire (SF -36). Then will be checked the weight, height and calculated body mass index. The project was approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the Federal University of Sao Carlos (No. 181 479).
