Abstract The scope of this proposal is to investigate higher curvature corrections in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. These are in principle dictated by string theory and would correspond, on the gauge theory side of the duality, to finite N and finite lambda corrections. Our philosophy will be to consider a simple setting where such corrections are under good computational control, namely Lovelock theories of gravity. Lovelock gravities are a simple higher curvature extension of Einstein relativity in space-time dimensions higher than 4. These theories have several nice features: having second order equations for the metric they are free of pathologies and, moreover, admit a wealth of black hole solutions with and without AdS boundary conditions. In this proposal we describe a research project, which will constitute the main result of the student's M.Sc. dissertation. (AU) | |
