Abstract Large portion of primates in captivity has die from cardiomyopathy. Studies determining normal cardiac parameters of these animals on our continent are scarce. The number of primates in captivity of Alouatta guariba in Brazil is high, which justifies evaluate the normal cardiovascular function of these species by digital radiography, echocardiography and electrocardiography. The study will be conducted with healthy animals, without prior cardiovascular disease. The animals will undergo general anesthesia for measurement of weight and chest circumference. Then it will be performed cardiac evaluation and blood collection for blood count, liver enzymes and renal function. All data will be stored for later analysis trying to propose parameters for normal cardiac assessment of new world primates bred in captivity. (AU) | |
