Abstract The anaerobic capacity (AnC) is defined as the maximum amount of ATP that can be resynthesized by anaerobic metabolism and has been considered an important physiologic parameter for sports activities of anaerobic characteristics. The maximum accumulated oxygen deficit (MAOD) is the most widely accepted procedure for determination of AnC, but due to the great expense of time required for its determination (10 to 20 sessions of submaximal exercise and one supramaximal), its application becomes limited and impractical in sports training routine. The objective of this study is to verify the validity, reproducibility and sensitivity of a procedure for determining the MAOD in just one session of supramaximal exercise on a cycle ergometer, which will be called MAODRED. The project will be implemented in three stages: In the first study, the aim is to verify the validity and effect of the intensity of the supramaximal exercise in determining MAODRED on cycle ergometer. The MAODRED determined by eight different supramaximal exercises will be compared to conventional MAOD. In the study 2, the aim is to investigate the reproducibility of MAODRED and its association with other anaerobic performance parameters on a cycle ergometer, as the Wingate test. In the study 3, the objective is to verify the sensitivity of MAODRED in discriminating individuals with different levels of performance on cycle ergometer (sedentary, moderately active and trained) as well as the effect of different levels of anaerobic fitness alactic altered by supplementation of caffeine and placebo. | |
