Abstract

We constantly learn and update our beliefs about when certain events occur. We know that surprising events and errors are important factors for triggering these processes. However, the mechanisms that govern learning and updating in temporal domain are still largely unknown. In order to clarify these mechanisms we have proposed three objectives: 1) describe how we learn a new temporal relationship and how this expectation is updated and changed based on new information; 2) describe the neural mechanisms underlying these learning processes and the recalibration of our motor action; 3) check the objectives 1 and 2 in two different sensory modalities: vision and hearing, in order to check where these processes occur. Participants will perform psychophysical tasks concurrent with the recording of their electroencephalographic activity. Two experiments are proposed, focusing on different sensory modalities (vision and audition). The results will provide a better understanding of the neural bases of learning and temporal recalibration. (AU)
