Abstract

Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases, usually in elderly. The clinical manifestations are resting tremor, bradykinesia, decreased muscle strength, rigidity, postural and gait abnormalities, and disturbances in voice, speech and swallowing. Swallowing disorders lead to dehydration and malnutrition, and increased occurrence of aspiration pneumonia. The aim of this study is to verify the pharyngeal phase of swallowing with fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) in patients with Parkinson's disease. In this study, we will evaluate 20 adult with diagnosis of DP and both genders. The participants will submit a clinical interview and they will performed fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing by the same otorhinolaryngologist. We will evaluated theses exams with nasoendoscopic Pentax®, the micro camera system and use the image capture software Zscan 6.0. The results will described and categorized.
