Abstract

The research looks at the european production of architecture and urbanism from the late 1950's to the early 1970's in order to examine two projects that fit into the context of the so-called tecnoutopias: New Babylon (1958-1974) of Constant Nieuwenhuis/International Situationists and Continuous Monument (1969) of Superstudio. It is intended to discuss the different ideals of man and society presented in such projects, trying to understand how each project used utopian elements as a contesting resource against the stablishment. The reading of these projects is based on the discussions proposed by three authors that studied utopias: Françoise Choay, Henri Lefebvre and Manfredo Tafuri. From this questioning, the research aims to feed the contemporary debate on the crisis of utopias in architecture today, as well as the need for their rehabilitation. (AU)
