Abstract

The proposed undergraduate research project aims the dynamic analysis of valve train system of a single cylinder engine of internal combustion, four-stroke, Otto cycle system. This analysis will be performed by a discrete model of lumped parameters in which each element of the mechanism, composed by cam, tappet, pushrod, rocker, spring and valve will be represented by an equivalent set of masses, springs and dampers. The equations that describe the dynamic behavior of the model will be used to the development of a computational application based on the software MatLab/Simulink that allows the performance analysis of the behavior of the engine valve actuation system in the time domain, considering as input parameter the camshaft rotation. The physical parameters of the valve train system elements will be measured and modeled in a CAD system for subsequent determination of characteristics of inertia and stiffness with the aid of a CAE system based on the finite element method. It is expected that this study enable the understanding of dynamic behavior of the analyzed system and the analysis of the influence of the specific parameter on the overall system behavior. (AU)
