Abstract

The Brazil presents one of the greatest cattle herd in the word, about 20 million animals. In the country, the intensive system, or feedlot, is used in the final phase only, for a 90-day time. In spite of the short feedlot instance, animals might be under stress, and this may cause damages to the welfare and to the carcasses and meat quality. This study aims to establish a morphological and morphometric pattern of the Nelore cattle's adrenal gland that underwent different feedlot densities and check if those animals may go through alterations in the cortical and medullar layers of the adrenal gland, which is responsible for the hormone production related to stress. Adrenals will be fixed in Bouin solution and longitudinally sectioned. By using a software and digitizer tablet, measurements will be taken in the gland's longitudinal and median transversal axes, besides the cortical and medullar areas. (AU)
