Abstract

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a well established form of treatment and clinically approved for various types of cancer in many countries. This antineoplastic treatment is based on the use of photosensitizers, i.e. drugs which absorb photons transforming light energy into chemical potential damage to tumor tissues. Thus, the use of PDT is expanding to several types of cancer, including among them brain tumors. In this study we investigate the effect of phototoxic ZnPSO4 mitochondria and synaptosomes of cerebral cortex of rats view of the possible use of PDT for the treatment of brain tumors.
