Abstract This research aims to analyze the musical performances in Cartola: Música Para Os Olhos (2006), a documentary directed by Hilton Lacerda and Lirio Ferreira. Our goal is to investigate how the music filmed work as a narrative tool and what extend their sounds and sights can tell us about Cartola and samba´s history. The musical performances specially shot to this film are the main analysis focus. Sala de Recepção, Chega de Demanda and Vale do São Francisco are the songs involved in these sequences and all of them were performed by people from Mangueira community. | |
