Abstract In cancer treatment, most of the chemoterapics used are derived from natural products or derivatives. The rhizome of Hedychium coronarium is used in Chinese natural Medicine to treat infections in general, as the sore throat, acute pain related to rheumatism, as a tonic, antipyretic, among other applications. In the literature, there are reports of several biological activities related to its natural compounds. In previous studies, we obtained from the dichloromethane extract of H. coronarium rhizomes the following substances: Coronarin, Coronarin E, Coronarin D, Coronarin cetalizada D, (E)-labda-8(17),12- diene -15,16 - dial and labda -8 (17), 13-dien -15, 16 -olideo. In the assessment of biological activity, Coronarin D showed promisor antiproliferative activity in PC-3 (prostate) and HT-29 (colorectal) tumor cells and was also able to inhibit the phosphatase PTP1B and CDC25B. So, to continue this work, it is proposed to comprove the antiproliferative activity in vitro in cultured tumor cells and evaluate the Coronarin D mechanisms of action, by evaluating the type of cell death, addressing key proteins involved in the apoptotic process, proliferation and survivor.
