Abstract

The present research aims to identify the attributive factors to academic performance of Accounting students in traditional and e-learning modalities. We also intend to obtain evidence on the relationship between the success and failure of students of Accounting and their self-esteem. The instrument for data collection will be a questionnaire, will be prepared with open and closed-ended questions with the aim aiming to identify general characteristics of respondents; attributive factors of academic performance and their causal dimensions; feelings regarding the achieved performance; and level of self-esteem. The population of this study is the set of all students, in traditional and e-learning mode, matriculated at first semester of 2014 in the final periods of the accounting course (sixth, seventh and eighth periods), in Brazilian federal universities that offer both teaching modalities. It is expected that internal attributive factors are related to academic success and failure of Brazilian students in the traditional and e-learning modalities and the attributive factors of academic performance perceived by students to be different between the learning modalities. Given the specificity of e-learning, it is believed that the effort will be the attributive factor most indicated as the cause of success compared to the traditional modality. It is also expected that students with low self-esteem attribute underperforming to internal attributive factors. (AU)
