Abstract The quantum information processing (QIP ) has becomed one of the hot topics in physics in the last decade . More and more experiments that aim the realization of computing and / or quantum simulation have been proposed and realized in large groups around the world. Among them is the experiments with ions confined in a linear trap. The high fidelity of the measurements, the high degree of control and the robustness of these systems are some of the factors that makes ion traps to be one of the most successful system in this field of research. In Brazil we do not have any experiments with ion trap for QIP , although we have some theoretical work in this area . The goal is build an ion trap to perform experiments on quantum algorithms and simulation of quantum systems. With this we want to create the first milestone in studies with ion traps in our country. Ion traps are basis for studies of quantum optics , measurements of fundamental constants , atomic physics and other areas of basic physics and also applied physics for example : quantum cryptography and metrology | |
