Abstract

Based on the recent results and findings of postdoctoral research currently being performed, this BEPE project proposal is for a training and research period at the University of California-Davis under the supervision of Professor Leopoldo Bernucci, Ph.D, with the following objectives in mind: (1) to carry out bibliographical research on accounts by American and English travelers who visited the Amazon in the nineteenth century, (2) to investigate the relationship between these writings and Inglês de Sousa's novels, (3) participation in a group of studies in progress that work from a transnational (Latin American) perspective on the Amazon and that is coordinated by the supervising professor, (4) deepening the theoretical framework which underpins the study of Inglês de Sousa's critical reception.
