Abstract

This project aims to analyses an important part of the collection of MIS - Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo - that constitutes a fundamental research material within the theme of the Brazilian film critic.The quoted material is the sound record of debates and round tables on Brazilian cinema compounds by important critics and thinkers of national culture, as Jean-Claude Bernardet, Carlos Augusto Machado Calil and Inácio Araújo, and filmmakers, artists and technicians who have worked in the making of films such as John Baptist de Andrade, Aníbal Massaini, Aloysio Raulino, Denoy de Oliveira, Renato Tapajós and others. Among the vast collection of sound recordings of debates and roundtables produced and maintained by the MIS, this project proposes to examine the ones referring to the 80s, a period in which the Brazilian cinema was in a delicate situation of artistic reflux and financial crisis caused mainly by economic problems at Embrafilme and in the country in general and the evanescence of the more radical proposals aesthetic that have characterized the Brazilian New Cinema and the Cinema Marginal, that seemed to have no place in a context of prolonged military rule and advancement of the cultural industry.
