Abstract

The present research project is linked to both the master's course of Education at the College of Science and Technology (FCT - UNESP), in the field of chilhood and Education, and to the research group FROPEI (Training for Teachers of Child Education). The research aims at identifying the vision children have of spaces, as well as their wishes and expectations in relation to those spaces. In order to do that the quality of those environments and the aspects that can ease or burden socialization, peer acceptance, the feeling of belonging, and group identity were analized. At the same time, it also aims at identifying the way teachers, the school principal and the pedagogical counsellor conceive the space organization and wether they use that space for educational purposes and forsee any changes in the current educational place. The research work is characterized as a case study within a qualitative approach including discussions on concepts such as space, environment, and place, with emphasis on child education. The field of study will be a public institution in Presidente Prudente city, which is located in Sao Paulo State. Data collecting wil be through: children's wish poems that reveal the most liked places at school; child watching, with notes and photos of those places; semi-structured interviews with teachers, the school principal and the pedagogical counsellor; visual selection with all the subjects involved in the research, and finally, children's wish poems reflecting what subjects would change in school places if they could do it.
