Abstract

The objective of this work is to develop failure envelopes for laminae of woven fiber composites based on asymptotic homogenization techniques. Considering the composites of interest periodic in terms of their heterogeneity, homogenization techniques can be used to analyze stresses at unit cells of the material microstructure. To build the failure envelopes, such stresses are evaluated in the different phases of the composite (fiber or matrix regions) according to appropriate yield/failure criteria, in several loading situations for the unit cell. The results obtained can be validated by comparison with experimental data from the literature. Failure of unidirectional fiber composites can also be used as guidelines. (AU)
