Abstract

Objective: To compare complete tumor regression rate associated with intravenous (IVC) versus intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) as the primary treatment of naïve retinoblastoma patients.Design: Retrospective comparative studyMethods: This is a retrospective and comparative study during which the authors will analyze the medical records referring to eyes of retinoblastoma patients Grade A, B, C, D & E who were submitted to intravenous and intra-arterial chemotherapy and who were followed up for at least 1 year. Patients will be divided into two groups according to chemotherapy modality: Intravenous chemotherapy (IVC) group and intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) group. All data will be collected in a retrospective fashion and will include patient's age at diagnosis, race, sex, and hereditary pattern (sporadic, familial). The eye will be assessed for laterality of involvement (unilateral, bilateral), total number of retinal tumors per eye, and International Classification of Retinoblastoma. The main endpoint analyzed will be the Intraocular Tumor regression rate after 1 year of follow-up and other endpoints also will be analyzed: 1) Recurrence rate; recurrence defined as any type of new tumoral mass or subretinal fluid, or vitreous or subretinal seeds; 2) Salvage of the eye rate defined as preservation of the eye, even if phthisic; 3) Survival rate after 1 year of follow-up.
