Abstract

The present project intends to study the writings of soviet filmmaker Dziga Vertov, emphasizing on the texts that, prior to the publishing of the first two volumes of the Russian edition Dziga Vertov. Iz Nasledya (in 2004 and 2008), had not been included in other editions of selected writings, analyzing the possible contributions of this material to the study of the filmmaker's work. Another objective is to identify the existing imprecisions, as pointed out by this new edition, on the reproduction of Vertov's texts in the volume Dziga Vertov. Stat'y, dnevniky, zamysly (org. Sergei Drobashenko, Isskustvo, 1966), which for a long time was used as the main source for many of the most widespread Western translations of Vertov's texts, including Annette Michelson's Kino-Eye: The Writings of Dziga Vertov (1984). For this study, the candidate will translate directly from the Russian language some selected materials, utilizing the Iz Nasledya edition. (AU)
