Abstract

The family Lycopodiaceae has passed by several taxonomic reformulations and the latest ratings recognize 16 genera and approximately 500 species. For Brazil, there are records of nine genera and 52 species. Phlegmariurus is the most abundant genus with 39 species, 23 of them endemic, occurring mainly in the Atlantic forest and rocky fields of the Espinhaço. Such species have been traditionally circumscribed the genus Huperzia Bernh., however phylogenetic analyzes showed the non monophyletism of the genus that would become monophyletic only with the inclusion of the monotypic genus Phylloglossum Kunze (endemic from Oceania). Some phylogenetic studies of Huperzia have been performed, but not including a representative sample of the Brazilian species. Consequently, the relationships of endemic species from Brazil with others of the genus are still uncertain. Thus, the objective is to perform molecular phylogeny of Phlegmariurus species endemic to Brazil, and test whether these species form a monophyletic group or originated from different ancestors. For this purpose, extraction techniques, amplification and sequencing of two molecular markers of cpDNA and later phylogenetic analysis in specialized software will be used. (AU)
