Abstract

Among the ketones bodies, Beta- hydroxybutyrate (B-OH) is larger in quantity during ketogenesis, as well as possibilities of effects. The B-OH can activate membrane receptors, inhibit enzymes which control histone acetylation, induce intense formation of acetyl-CoA and energy for cellular metabolism. Data support the idea that the B-OH is signaling metabolite which influence metabolism and gene expression, including factors that regulate mitochondrial function. In this context, little is known about the direct effects of B-OH in physiological concentrations on the metabolism of white adipocytes different cushions, especially as regards mitochondrial biogenesis and thermogenic program. Thus, the central and initial objective of this work is to verify if the B-OH could regulate substrate oxidation in addition to markers of mitochondrial biogenesis and thermogenic program in white adipocytes from different fat pads.
