Evaluation of transcriptional activity of genes present in the B chromosome of the cichlid Astatotilapia latifasciata

Abstract

The discovery of extra chromosomes, supernumerary, called B chromosomes, non-homologous chromosomes to the rest of the cell, has been described for over a century in a large number of species of plants, animals, and fungi. Among the various species of animals carrying Bs, highlights the African cichlid fish species Astatotilapia latifasciata, which may have 1 or 2 of these genomic sequencing using cromossomos. Previous analyzes using genomic sequencing on a large scale were applied in this species, involving complete genome sequencing of individuals with and without B chromosomes, as well as microdissected B chromosomes. These analyzes allowed the identification of thousands of duplicated sequences on chromosome B from all chromosomes of the complement A. However, most of the genes/sequences present in B are fragmented, and only a small number of them have high integrity. Among the genes detected with high integrity, there is a set of genes involved in the control of cell division. It is believed that the presence of genes involved in the cell cycle may play an important role in the transmission and maintenance of chromosome B in A. latifasciata. Thus, the proposal aims to assess the transcriptional profile of genes involved in the control of the cell cycle and present on chromosome B of A. latifasciata. (AU)
