Abstract

Mental health care has been neglected by the state, specifically regarding the problematic care related to alcohol and drug users. Currently, there are many ways of treating alcohol and drug dependence, however, the current public policies prioritize the funding of the therapeutic community inpatient method. The aim of this study is to understand the meanings constructed regarding the experiences of inpatient users of therapeutic communities. For this, some former users of therapeutic communities in treatment at an Alcohol and Drugs Psychosocial Care Center (CAPSad) will be interviewed aiming to gain a better comprehension of their social construction related to having drug consumption as a problematic issue in their lives; know their trajectories through the pursuit of mental health and drug addiction care; and comprehend their experiences of inpatient treatment within these communities and the impact of the community inpatient treatment in their lives. The interviews will follow the semi-structured model and will be conducted in a CAPSad located in Ribeirão Preto - SP with users that have been out of a therapeutic community for over two months. The data analysis will consider social constructionism as the theoretical background, taking in to consideration the long time, the lived time and the short time. This project will be submitted to the Research Ethics Council and will follow the recommendations of resolution number: 466 of December 12th 2012.
