Abstract

In late 1950 and early 1960 the Brazilian society experienced a surge in economic growth favored by the victory Juscelino Kubitschek to the presidency and with it the proposition of "plano de metas," supported the developmentalist ideology of the nation. The arts were also impacted by these structural transformations wrought in economic and political terms, they began to put on the agenda other readings on the Brazilian reality and building a culture guided by a national popular ideal. The music, in particular, was renewed in stylistic terms and the creation of bossa nova consolidated the aspirations of an entire generation of young people around a new aesthetic and political project. In this picture is emerging, with so many musicians and composers, the work of composition of Sérgio Ricardo, for his record production is one of the most creative aspects of the period, in that it reveals key elements to understand the process of politicization of the arts at that time and engagement of intellectuals and artists in the name of a popular and national culture.
