Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the cultural trajectory of the artist Flavio de Carvalho (1899-1973) during the 1930s, looking for a reflexion about the impact of his actions that were connected with European vanguard moviments, inserted at the paulistan sociocultural space. Great cultural icon of the period, the artist had realized several cultural interventions that had configured his compromising for the modern art in São Paulo; by this way, this research will seek learning his historical significance to Sao Paulo's city and so to the history of the Brazilian Modernism, debating his role as an artist compromised culturally and his chat with that society, by means of his artistic and cultural interventions.
