Abstract

The eucalyptus, a tree species belonging to the genus Eucalyptus is one of the most commonly used species in forest plantations worldwide and the most one used in Brazil. Conflicts involving their plantation are reported in several countries, including Brazil. Among the environmental reasons of these conflicts, reducing the flow of watercourses is a recurrent one. In this sense, we intend to investigate the perceptions that neighboring rural communities to eucalyptus plantations have in relation to their influence on the flow of local watercourses considering social, economic, political and environmental aspects of the place they live in order to contextualize and understand these perceptions and relate them to current knowledge about the influence of eucalyptus in streamflow. Thus, we intend to understand the origins and the existence of scientific reasoning on these perceptions, which can subsidize research in forest hydrology and promote improvements in forest management. To achieve this objective, semi-structured interviews will be conducted in two cities, one in the Paraiba Valley and the other in Jequitinhonha Valley. The interview will include variables used in studies of environmental perception, which, as this one address perceptions regarding aspects of the environment. Interview data will be categorized, their frequency will be measured and they will be statistically analyzed using multiple logistic regression and log-linear models. The municipalities informations will complement the analyzes. (AU)
