Abstract

One of the chapters of my dissertation refers to a critical reading of the report "Goa em 1956", from Orlando Ribeiro, and the collections of "Biblioteca Nacional" and "Biblioteca da Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa" will allow me to investigate the theoretical and methodological foundations that consolidated the sense of the observations exposed.Still, the work of other writers who've been to Goa during this period will be consulted, consolidating the panorama of representations of Portuguese and foreign authors on the political situation of Portuguese India. The focus of these readings is to find possible links between culture and nation, as suggested in the work of Gilberto Freyre already consulted. Still, all of these representations will be read in contrast to the nationalist formulations, like the ones presented by the intelectual elites in the journal "Ressurge Goa", edited by Telo de Mascarenhas. Thus, the resumption of an identity link to India marks a rupture of local elites in relation to the elements of Portuguese culture that they sought to assume during the colonial period. (AU)
