Abstract

The literature shows that classical music causes changes in cardiac autonomic modulation. The isometric handgrip test is a testautonomic activation. It is unknown in the literature the influence of auditory stimuli during that autonomic nerve stimulation. It is important to know the effects on the development of future preventative therapy of disturbances of the cardiovascular system. Within this context, the heart rate variability (HRV) is a noninvasive method to investigate cardiac autonomic modulation. Objective: To assess the acute effects of musical auditory stimulation on cardiac autonomic regulation during isometric handgrip test. Method: The study will be conducted in young males aged 18-25 years. Linear indices of time domain, frequency and geometric indices of heart rate variability (HRV) will be analyzed. There will be two randomized protocols, performed on different days. Protocol 1 will be based on the record to stand for 10 minutes. Subsequently, the subject held the handgrip at 30% of maximum grip strength for 90s, followed by 10 minutes of rest. Protocol 2 will be based on the record to stand for 10 minutes. Subsequently, the subject will hear classical music for 10 minutes (Pachelbel: Canon in D Major), then hold the handgrip at 30% of maximum grip strength for 90s, followed by 10 minutes of rest. The equivalent sound level of exposure of the musical stimulus will be 59-79 dB.
