Abstract

The candidate's doctoral dissertation proposes a reflection on the role of integrity in urban preservation, from the construction of an epistemological and historic critique of this term. In this regard, the study approaches the origin and meanings that integrity had over time, as well as its circulation within different disciplines - such as Philosophy, Nature Conservation and Restoration - to reach the current preservationist practices. In this sense, the research verifies how integrity appears on the major preservationist theories and doctrines, since the consolidation of the Restoration field as an autonomous discipline from the nineteenth century to the present day. Aiming to complete the construction of a historical-critical timeline of integrity - that will constitute the theoretical basis for thinking this quality in relation to a Brazilian urban area - is proposed this internship abroad at Facoltà di Architettura, Università degli Studi di Roma - La Sapienza. This is one of the largest centers in the world for the study of Theory and History of the Restoration and Latin Languages. In addition, Rome hosts the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property [Iccrom] Headquarters, which holds several documents from worldwide preservationist institutions. Therefore, this internship in Italy is crucial to finalize the survey of documents and bibliographical references that are not available in Brazil. The exchange of research experiences and opinions with the Dipartimento di Storia, Disegno e Restauro dell'Architettura's [DSDRA] members - composed by professors and doctoral candidates with similar academic interests - will also be contemplated.
