Abstract

This research aims to study the nature and the role of the first industry in São Paulo from 1870 to 1914. Also it intends to investigate its real importance in São Paulo's economy for the period, as well as its influence on urban transformations of the city. It also aims to georeference it, to characterize its geography and its initials movements that occurred from the central perimeter to the suburbs. The proposal is concerned on obtaining an overview of this emerging industry, at that time featured by small factories and manufacturing, by mapping its location, its development and its importance over the economy, over daily social life and over the urbanism in São Paulo, amid the preponderant coffee economy.
