Input biodynamic profile of trocars and veress needle in laparoscopic surgery

Abstract

In advent of the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 1987, the number of laparoscopy abdominal surgery has been increased. However, along with this innovation also comes concern about complications in surgical access through the Veress needle and Trocar, whose importance had already been reported in previous studies. The same author of this project (CP) demonstrated in another study that there is a force profile on the insertion of trocars represented by two force peaks: the first to cross the fascia and the second to cross the peritoneum. However, the machine used for this previous study did not perform rotational movement of trocars, precluding the use of some types of trocars and making incongruent to the technique commonly used by surgeons study. Therefore we developed a sensor glove form which is the dominant hand of the surgeon and measuring the force used on the switch to go through the abdominal wall, taking into account the rotational motion. Thus the aim of this study is to evaluate the strength, time, distance and deformation of the fascia and peritoneum to enter the trade, with rotational movement within the abdominal cavity of the pig. We plan to use 80 pigs to test 30 different types of exchange (10 punctures for each exchange), the sensor shaped sleeve coupled to a computer and a high speed camera (to assess deformation of fascia and distance traveled by the exchange).
