Abstract

People have always felt the need to preserve material asserts, that it possessed some historical value, cultural and/or personal. This way emerge the museums taking with it the ability to preserve some memory of a specific common past, using the museum space for education and/or entertainment to maintain and expose these materials asserts for future generations. This project aims at providing a study on visitation in the Coffee Museum (Museu do Café, at Botucatu, São Paulo), or in the perspective of a cultural heritage, or in the form of tourist attraction. A specific manner, we seek to identify its history, the activities carried out (educational and cultural), the conditions of preservation; and also, the characterization of the profile of the public visitor. We expect to discuss the importance of science museums and their visitation (from this example of a university museum). To achieve these goals, we use survey methods: visitors, Museum` staff, direction of the Faculty of Applications Sciences and other municipal entities on conservation; also we get references or documents about the Museum.
