Abstract

The forest residue management (litter and harvest residues) has been widely discussed in the 90s, a time of soil preparation techniques based on minimum tillage were adopted in the formation of forest stands in Brazil. Currently around this theme to be discussed, because it pressures on the use of forest residues for energy have emerged. Because of this, understanding the effects of removal of forest residues and fertilization in successive rotations becomes necessary, so that inadequate management does not compromise the sustainability of forest production. In this study, the objective is to evaluate the effect of management of forest residues and omission of nutrients by two growth rotations in the productivity of wood, organic matter and soil biological activity in an Eucalyptus grandis and understand the relationship between the response stand the no fertilizer application with N, P, K, Ca and Mg, with age, nutrient cycles, climatic conditions and soil moisture. This study will be conducted in an experiment at the Experimental Station of Forest Sciences Itatinga - SP, owned by ESALQ - USP. The experiment was installed in 2004, with different intensities removal of forest residues, and omission of N, P, K, Ca and Mg and conduced for eight years. In 2012 the experiment was reinstated, reapplying all treatments. This area will be evaluated: I) C and N stocks of soil N II) chemical and physical fractions of soil organic matter; III) soil microbial biomass; IV) levels of Al in the soil solution, exchangeable Al and Al bound to soil organic matter; V) growth of trees (wood volume, monthly diametric growth, biomass allocation and leaf area index). Subsequently the growth variables are related to climate and soil moisture information. (AU)
