Abstract

The proposed research aims at analyzing the dynamics of regional engagement - known in the literature as a third mission - of Brazilian public universities. In this regard, two complementary analyzes are undertaken: the internal dynamics of universities, whose main focus is their governance structure; and the external dynamics, in which the interactions between universities and their environment are the center of attention. In addition, the research includes the construction of indicators geared to the Brazilian reality and specifically to the third mission activities, which embrace three dimensions: technology transfer and innovation, continuing education, and social engagement.
