Abstract

The production of persimmon is rapidly expanding as a new fruit crop in warm subtropical regions of the world. Brazil is the world's fourth largest producer, although almost all of the national production of persimmon is for the domestic market, the country has consolidated as a major exporter of fruit to countries in Europe and the Americas, making it an important agricultural activity for small Brazilian farmers. Most research and development of the culture of persimmon fruits occurred in Japan, where there is a considerable amount of literature. Thus, the knowledge of the phenology and fruit set of persimmon in tropical climate is of great importance for the study of the development of this species in these conditions, since the production of the fruit is unstable due to the high falls of flowers and fruits. The lack of information for the persimmon tree cultivated in Brazil motivates to assess the establishment of fruits of different cultivars among them the most planted in São Paulo with the use of gibberellic acid and evaluation of the accumulation of degree-days required for fixation and maturation. The work will be conducted in an orchard in the experimental area, horticulture sector, the College of Agriculture Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ / USP) in Piracicaba-SP, in the period 2014/2015. The evaluation of fruit set in relation to the application of different concentrations of gibberellic acid (0, 25, 100 mg/l GA3) will be at anthesis were excluded pollinators during a bloom. (AU)
