Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyze the structural behavior of partially encased composite columns subjected to axial and flexural loading by experimental and numerical investigations. Also intend to evaluate the behavior of the steel profile and concrete interface in order to determine their influence on the overall element behavior. Furthermore, it was observed that in the search for structural efficiency and construction process rationalization, new materials or combination of materials are used in construction. In the case of specific partially encased composite columns the main difficulty in the construction process is related to the requirement for shear reinforcement anchored in the steel profile thus aims to test the efficiency of replacing conventional reinforcement for alternatives, such as welded steel meshes between the flange of steel profile or concrete with added fibers in short and slender columns. In addition it is proposed that the development of numerical simulations for extrapolating the experimental results. With this, it seeks to approximate the mixed elements of Brazilian reality in relation to materials and construction techniques. (AU)
