Abstract

Eucalyptus is the most planted genre in Brazil, finding, in general, in infertile soil. Thus, the use of fertilization has become essential, shown after its production cultivation in several successive cycles. Potassium (K) is the most required macronutrient for eucalyptus, acting in the activation of several enzymes, osmotic control, stomatal opening, photosynthesis and resistance to frost and diseases. Thus, the K influences directly the water use efficiency (WUE) in plants, bringing great benefits, especially in areas of water deficit. Sodium (Na) may partially replace some physiological functions of the K, being very interest their fertilization since its cost is relatively lower. Silicon (Si) can be deposited the cuticle and provides more erect leaves, favoring photosynthesis and decreasing plant transpiration and thus influence also in the WUE. Therefore, this study objectively assess, in three experiments in the greenhouse of the Department of Forest Sciences (ESALQ / USP), the supply of K, Na and Si in nutrient solution to seedlings of eucalyptus. Will be evaluated nutrition, gas exchange, stomatal density, leaf water potential, the angle of leaf inclination, leaf area, the WUE and the growth of plants in different seasons. It is expected that plants respond positively to the K supply and that both Na as Si provide benefits to the initial growth of eucalyptus influencing positively the physiological processes of the plants.
