Abstract

The goal of this research project is to provide an extensive study of Arte Joven (Young Art), an artistic-literary magazine founded by Pablo Ruiz Picasso (Málaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973) and Francisco Assis de Soler in Madrid in 1901.Arte Joven had five issues artistically directed and illustrated by Picasso. Many of the writers nowadays associated to the Spanish Generation of '98 collaborated with them, such as Pío Baroja, Miguel de Unamuno and José Martínez Ruiz (Azorín).This study aims to establish sensible connections between Picasso's initial work and the several recurring ideas in the Spanish literary scene at the time, characterized by a large range of manifestations. In order to do so, the aforementioned editions, artistically directed by Picasso, shall be analyzed with the support of a yet to be collected theoretical material. It is thus intended to conduct an examination of Picasso's artistic trajectory during his period in Spain, relating it to a wider intellectual panorama.
