Abstract

The objective of this Project is to develop a transmission line model that takes into account the main characteristics required when this power system component is represented, that is, to be developed directly in time domain, to take into account that the transmission line parameters are distributed along the line length and to consider the frequency dependence of the longitudinal parameters. The proposed model is based on Bergeron model, that is time domain and a distributed parameters model. In the proposed model it will be considered that due to ground and skin effects the longitudinal parameters of the line (resistance and inductance) are frequency dependents. These parameters will be approximate by rational functions and, after that, they will be inserted in the Bergeron model. The model will be used to represent short and long lines in simulations of electromagnetic transients resulting from switching and lightning. Due to the proposed model is a time domain model, it may be easily inserted in programs such as ATP (Alternative Transients Program) and it will be a useful tool to simulate and to analyze electromagnetic transients in electric power systems.
