Kinematic analysis and muscle activity of the wrist while performing functional tasks

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the motor control strategies used specifically for the wrist joint during two functional tasks. This will be accomplished through the electromyography activity of the muscles radial carpal extensor, extensor carpi ulnaris, flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor digitorum superficialis. Moreover, it will be evaluated and described the kinematics of wrist and fingers joints at the same tasks. Will be invited to participate in the study 25 healthy subjects, aged 18 to 35 years old, female or male, with right dominance. Will be excluded individuals with a history of trauma or musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limbs, as well as individuals diagnosed with cognitive impairment. To assess the kinematics of the joints of the wrist and fingers, a software for analysis of 3D images (Nexus, Vicon Motion Systems Ltd ®) will be used. The two tasks belong to the Upper Limb Functional Test "Elui", which involve prehension and reach the level of the shoulders, lifting and load shifting. A graphical representation will be generated on the computer.
