Abstract Many epidemiological studies have shown that hypertension in adulthood is associated with the nutrition of the mother during pregnancy. Inhumans, the reduced number of glomerulus is related to hypertension, cardiovascular and renal disease in adult life. In our laboratory, Alves-Rodrigues Jr. et. al studied the adult male offspring of rats which were fed a low sodium diet (HO - 0.15% NaCl), normosodic (NR - 1.3% NaCl) or high salt (HR - 8% NaCl) during the gestation. In this study, it was observed that the males of the adult offspring of mothers who received high salt diet during gestation developed left ventricular hypertrophy in adulthood in response to chronic overload of salt in the diet, regardless of high blood pressure. Using the same experimental model, this project aims to study the genic expression of components of the renin angiotensin system (RAS). | |
