Abstract

The research herein proposed consists of the theoretical and empirical examination of a hypothesis raised by part of contemporary European and American literature on gender studies and animal studies. The hypothesis indicates that there is a connection between an anthropophilic speciesism (i.e., the social marking of individuals in accordance with a species together with the better evaluation of those marked as human) and a misogynistic sexism (i.e., the social marking of individuals in accordance with a gender, associated to a lesser evaluation of those marked as women). Furthermore, it suggests the devaluation of material corporeality plays a central part in this connection. Analysing the interaction of certain industrial slaughterhouse workers and individuals emically classified as women and non human animals, their impressions and representations on individuals so classified, we will attempted to gather information that aid answer this question: to what extent that hypothesis can be transposed to the designated population of this research and to its designated period of time (year of 2015)? Such data should be produced via semi-structured interviews and in situ observation, aside from the systematic examination of bibliographical data and documents on the issue. (AU)
