Abstract

This project proposes to investigate the existing conditions for the creation of interactive artifacts, placed within a complex and collaborative context, and potentialized by digital technologies. It aims to examine and differentiate the traditional design methodologies from the new, more collaborative and decentralized methods of contemporary production. For this purpose, the project includes an internship at MIT Center for Civic Media, which will allow for a better understanding of how design methodologies are developed outside Brazil. This research will also contribute to ZL Vórtice Project by keeping record of the process and participating in the creation and development of its platform interface.Aspects of practices that allow for the emergence of new patterns and forms of expression in urban spaces will be studied and mapped through the characterization of their creation conditions. In this sense, we will investigate the dynamics, as well as the complex, collaborative and open nature of these productions, contributing to the understanding of the concept of design in the contemporary world. The approach will be made by the Cartographic Method, which is able to grasp an object in its systemic character and its openess to the emergence of expressive qualities, making it possible to identify components of a new paradigm of creation. The mapping will take the form of an online collaborative map of contemporary productions that somehow indicate or express such transformations in the act of creation, development and implementation, having the cited productions (ZL Vórtice and some projects developed at the Center for Civic Media) as main references, and that may also have significant contributions after being published on the Internet. At the MIT Center for Civic Media, where innovative interactive tools and interfaces are constantly being developed, this research is likely to get a substantial qualitative leap.
