Abstract

This is the proposal of two studies to be conducted at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, by the Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE). The aim of the first study is to analyze the applicability of Mini Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination (M-ACE) in a cohort of Brazilian elderly with low education and living in rural communities of Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The study for brief instruments, with fast application and reliable for screening cognitive impairment and dementia is necessary, especially in elderly groups with low education. For this study we will use databank from the principal research in Brazil, to be analyzed and discussed together with M-ACE's creators at University of Cambridge. The aim of second study is to analyze the coping strategies, burden and depressive symptoms in Brazilian and non-Brazilian caregivers. To understand the coping of caregivers, it is important to research the different cultures and contexts of care. It will used data collected in Brazil and data provided by the researchers group at University of Cambridge. All data will be described and analyzed using descriptive statistics, internal consistency tests, data normality tests, correlation and comparison tests. Finally, the research internship abroad in one of the best universities in the world will bring valuable contributions to the main project in Brazil, once the group is responsible for the creation of the cognitive tests, is reference in knowledge of statistical analysis, is open to the bond between the two institutions and provide the best infrastructure to perform the research internship.
