Abstract

In this PhD project, I propose a critical analysis of the Brazilian artistic production in the passage of the 60 to 70-twentieth century, within the assumptions of feminist theories of cultural criticism, with emphasis on the possibilities for female subjectivity through artistic practice. To be more specific, I am concerned here with certain works done by Sonia Andrade, Iole de Freitas, Gretta Sarfatty and Letícia Parente - Brazilian artists contemporary from each other and from the advent of second wave feminism in the country - which involving the visual and aesthetic concerns of time, linked to conceptual and experimental issues, and allow an approach to feminist criticism precisely because they work with body and identity issues, and enabling mainly encompass the limitations and/or possibilities of aesthetic education by clashes/subversions of gender.
