Abstract

The mechanisms that characterize the financialization and the mundialization - or, more usually said, the globalization - of the capitalism in the phase on which it stands today are widely known, be it through the academical papers, specialists opinions or general information spread by the media. What the system has today is a product of the profusion of moves taken, namely, during the seventies and the eighties in the field of economy and politics. However, little has been said about the vestiges that this mode of production displays presently, which unquestionably allude to the monopoly capitalism of the turn of the nineteenth century, period in which the dominance of the financial capital and the imperialism emerged as answers to the uproar imposed by the Great Depression of 1873 to 1896. Aiming a better comprehension of the recent phenomena in this field, and the following improvement of the future decisions, it is necessary to compare these two very similar, yet distinct, periods. This research project intends to establish general lines for the referred comparison by analyzing the most relevant theorists, the classical and the contemporary ones alike.
